Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he's heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen — literally, ouch! — both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma's gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom . .

Hang on to your fins because this is one whale of a tale. (Sorry, I really couldn't help myself there). This incredibly rich and engaging tale from two points of view leaves you craving for the next book. Anna provides a luscious backdrop for a witty grouping of characters.

It is pretty unusual to hear a story from a merman's perspective and I found that highly refreshing. Galen is an interesting personality and as the book progresses, there is some tremendous character development. Banks has weaved so many plot lines throughout the novel its like fisherman's net... you are caught completely.

I highly recommend this to anyone middle school age and up though there is one graphic scene that may be frightening for some. This fish is already waiting to be snared by the next book!
