Let's Go Kick Up Some Voodoo Trouble: Predestined by Abbie Glines

Predestined (Existence Trilogy, #2)by Abbi Glines

ebook -Published March 29, 2012

You would think after helping save her boyfriend from an eternity in Hell that things would go back to normal. Well, as normal as life can be when you can see souls and your boyfriend is Death. But for Pagan Moore, things are just getting weirder.

The high school quarterback and reigning heartthrob, Leif Montgomery, is missing. While the town is in a frenzy of worry, Pagan is a nervous wreck for other reasons. Apparently good ‘ol Leif isn’t your average teenage boy. He isn’t even human. According to Death, Leif doesn’t have a soul. The quarterback may have skipped town but he’s still showing up in Pagan’s dreams... uninvited.
Dank has known from the beginning Leif wasn’t human. But he hadn’t worried about a simple soulless creature. Now, he realizes he made a grave mistake. Pagan’s soul has been marked since birth as a restitution, to a spirit so dark not even Death walks near it. Dank knows saving Pagan’s soul won’t be easy but Pagan is his. And he’s already proven he’ll defy Heaven to keep her. If Hell wants a piece of him too, then bring it on.

Problems never seem to be in small supply for Pagan because in Predestined she is in over her head.... Literally. We knew with book ones's cliff hanger that something big was going to hit us hard at the start. It is big, bad and not so ugly. Turns out our ex-boyfriend is the son of a voodoo king. Aka: he's evil. Big time. I have a problem with this though because throughout the book, he NEVER acts like it. Pagan got on my nerves with her short sighted self.

The concept of reincarnation was a repetitive theme throughout the novel, and there were MANY holes to that mythology. There are so many "loopholes" in who gets to take a soul, where a soul goes, when it comes back.... One question in particular I had was with "The Creator" who called Dank onto the carpet, but we never hear what THAT was about. I just wish authors would really double check their facts against the mythologies they
create. It gets really annoying to spot them all while reading.

There was a very emotional bomb event that sent me running for the Kleenex box. It was so tragic and well written. I HATE to see anyone go, but it was critical to the plot. I still can't get over the names (aka Dank... Really?...) but there was enough material this time that my mind didn't focus on it.... too much.

Glines set up nicely for book three, but the teaser has me wondering what the heck did we go through all this crap for her to end up with boy number one? Pagan has so many guys after her they should take a number and get in line. If Dank gets dumped after EVERYTHING he went through for her I will be stark raving mad.

Let's go dig into book three and see how this ends. I have a feeling but let's see if she'll go the HEA route or the "Tragic Unrequited Love" ending.
