WHITE HOT KISS (The Dark Elements #1)

Genres: New Adult, Fantasy, Paranormal, Romance, Demons, Supernatural Beings,
Mystery

OVERVIEW:
One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

Who knew gargoyles could be so hot? Our resident goddess writer of all things paranormal, Jennifer Armentrout, that's who! Jennifer NEVER lets me down. This series is so refreshing with an entity that NO ONE has done yet. Let's listen a moment to the heavenly angels making joyful noise.

The number of writers who can world build in such a way as to completely, utterly envelope and submerge you are few.

She has that ability to transport you into that world and more importantly, the minds of the characters. Whenever I read a JLA novel I feel as though I am living right inside the characters' heads. Complete with comfy chair and snacks.

In this new series, of which I can only pray is a lengthy one that goes on until I'm old and gray. Oh wait.... make that old, I'm already gray. Back to my point, this first installment already has all the necessary essentials to make a earth shattering series.

Let's get back to the whole idea of gargoyles. Come on, let's be real. First thing in your mind is those scary as crap creatures spewing rainwater on your head. Imaging them as these powerful, living creatures that have eight pack abs you could build a house of cards on is not foremost in your head. After you read this book, that will be ALL you think of.

Gorgeous male specimens aside, this book had wit, drama, social issues, depth and wait for it.... emotional pull and character development. Yes, you know my core principals. Any book worth its weight will evolve and grow. Not only will the characters change as you read along, but you the reader will too.

Layla is a very relatable character even though most of us don't suck the souls out of people. Hmmm.. well I think I know a few ... oh never mind. Her desperate need to be accepted and loved is universal. I am a sucker for unrequited love and this had it in spades. But Jennifer loves to throw Godzilla sized monkey wrenches into the works.. things change and tables turn. Or do they? Can't spoil it for you :) Needless to say you are always guessing what other characters motives truly are. Spectacular. Delicious.

Roth is going to be my book boyfriend of this series. Oh yes. If you are a fan of Wendy Higgins' Kai, or Jennifer's Daemon, or Hush Hush's Patch then you are in for a special treat. He has wit. Angst. Passion. Insecurity. Cockiness. Intelligent. Insight. And gorgeous hair.

Zayne is the guy that girls either love or hate. At first I loved him. Then I hated him. Then I started loving him again. It was awesome. That is great writing. Dynamic, organic, never forced but always having kinetic energy. Mainly I wanted to throw him out the window for being dense. Then he would do something that made me want to wrap him up and take him home with me. Ah, the delightful dilemma.

There are elements to the plot that will seriously move you, so be ready with tissues, chocolate and possibly a pint of Ben & Jerry's.

Jennifer left us wanting more by the end of the story and I can tell you I am incredibly pumped to read the next installment. I suggest you grab a copy today and let the fiesta of book reading happiness begin!
